First Youtube video of 2022, in which Hitchcock goes courting! In the video, I’ll dive into why Easy Virtue as a whole doesn’t really hold up under scrutiny, but the first 18 minutes make for an excellent short film. The section of the story that takes place in a courtroom is exciting for a lot of reasons, but mostly because it visually represents how society’s idea of justice is skewed against women. For 1927, it’s a pretty bold idea (although the rest of the story undermines the feminist messaging in the courtroom).
